Welcome to the Fandango Farms website.  Fandango is a family owned farm, 20 minutes NW of Vernon BC.   Fandango was settled in the 1890's which makes it one of the oldest farms in the Okanagan.   We have a small family garden, some chickens, a few peacocks, llamas and misc cats.  We are tucked up against truly wild crown land, with a small year around creek, a gravity fed water system, good neighbours, and all in all, a really wonderful place for LeRae & myself to live.

The Practice of Happiness — Applying Spiritual Wisdom to Everyday Life

I am really excited to be part of this journey into the mysteries of the human spirit.  Follow this link for more info.  Next guided discussion group starts Thursday May 5th, 2011.

Gatherings at Fandango

I am a social person and have been on what could be called a spiritual path, my whole life.  One of the great gifts that has come from living here at Fandango has been our ability to host a variety of gatherings over the years.

These have been mostly community pot-luck type events, which would morph into a bit of a party with local friends DJing some tunes in the evening.  These gatherings have enriched my life in way that I can not fully express, and I know from what others have shared, many have been enriched.

These gatherings kept growing over the years until in the last few years (with maybe a little push from myself) they became somewhat unrecognizable from our pot-luck roots.

The media became aware of our 2010 Halloween event and the subsequent coverage painted a very distorted picture as to what our gatherings here at Fandango are all about.

At least partly as a result of this media coverage we received letters from both the RDNO (our municipal governing body) and the ALC (the agricultural land commission) asking us to stop holding our gatherings for reasons which I do not agree with.

However, looking at things from their point of view, we are an unusual entity, and government bodies always reach for the rule book when they don't know what else to do.  I think you could say their reaction is in keeping with the nature of their institution(s).

Anyway this whole process has given me cause to rethink our direction and what it is that we are doing.

For those of you who were here Halloween it was an amazing experience.  Great people, great music.  The best of what earth life has to offer.   And when it was over, I was too exhausted for two weeks after to even think.

LeRae & I are not looking for the biggest party around.  We are looking to express our gratitude and appreciation for our lives by sharing our good fortune with our friends.

We do not intend to stop having gatherings, but we want to return to how things started, private, word of mouth, pot-luck based gatherings, which take place in a safe & loving environment.

So we are going to make some changes.

Any public notice of future events will be kept to an absolute minimum.

We will have an events section on the web site but it will be password protected.  This will apply to our facebook site as well.

It will work like this.  I will give the password to anyone I know personally, (starting soon)  and they are free to give it to anyone they know personally.

This invitation process,  of person to person, heart to heart, I am calling “Interconnectedness”   A sort of 6 degrees of separation thing.   The web of life!

Once you are inside the password protected area,  you can register with your contact info and we will email you as any events come up.

All events will be simply by suggested donation.    We hope to hold one or two fundraisers events each year.  The first one for the North Okanagan Hospice House should be early summer.

I am hoping to send out the password in the next week or so.

Love to all,

Ed & LeRae
